Abstract

Andrographispaniculata is widely cultivated and its importance as a medicinal plant is growing up with stronger reports in support of its multifarious therapeutic uses. Taking great concern of the useful benefits of the plant, it can be advocated as a safe, highly important medicinal plant for mankind. It has multiple pharmacological properties such as antibacterial, hepatoprotective activity, anti-cancer, antitumor, hypoglycemic, immunemodulatory and hypotensive activities. It is well known that the surfactant CTAB is highly suitable for plant genomic DNA extraction. The estimation of genetic diversity between different genotypes is vital in plant breeding program and also essential for constituting linkage map. Genetic diversity are often studied by using morphological markers are preferred as they're supported the genotypes of a private, show genetic variation on a more detailed level and are free from the environmental effects/factors. Several molecular marker techniques are available for detecting differences within and among genotypes. For instance, DNA –RAPD, ISSR, SSR,SNP and Isozymes.The selection of RAPD was supported their relative technical simplicity, level of polymorphism they detect, cost effectiveness, easily applicable to any plant species and target those sequences which are abundant throughout the genome and are rapidly evolved. RAPD has been the foremost employed technique because it's simple and fast. This method was successfully applied for the isolation of DNA from other species of Terminalia like T. bellerica, T. chebula, and T. tomentosa. The high-quality genome of A. paniculata will not only lay out the foundation for investigating the genetic basis for secondary metabolite biosynthesis, but also serve as an important resource for the study of other plant species in the Andrographis genus.Keywords: Therapeutic, genomic DNA, CTAB, Genetic diversity, RAPD, SSR, SNP
