Abstract

The Indian National Congress was born due to national consciousness in India. The Congress was successful in building its national character as a national institution from the beginning. Due to which women also started taking interest in politics. Gradually with the popularity of Congress, women started playing their active role in the Congress programs with their ideological thoughts and self-conscious and self-confidence. Liberal-women fighters, who were pro-Ahimsa policy, began to ensure their participation in the national programs of the Congress. In the twentieth century, gradually, along with social awakening in women, the symptoms of national consciousness also began to be visible. Gandhi's call also encouraged the participation of women in the Congress. Gandhiji wanted to use non-violence as a revolutionary weapon because it was helpful in creating a situation suitable for women. The attention of administrators and academics also attracted the attention of women. Many women participated in their upliftment and awareness campaign, including Pandita Ramabai, Swarna Kumari Devi, Sarala Devi, Parvati Devi, Aruna Asif Ali etc. Sucheta Kripalani (1908 – 1974), freedom fighter, politician and the first woman to be elected Chief Minister of a state in India (Uttar Pradesh from 1963 to 1967) holds the distinctive and respective place in Indian minds was also among the women revolutionary who joined the freedom struggle. She was one of the few women who were elected to the Constituent Assembly and authored the Indian Constitution. The paper presents the life of Sucheta Kripalani how she got rid from her childhood shyness and develops herself to a strong inspiring character.
