Abstract

“Women Empowerment” has become one of the significant topic on which the countries around the world including India are emphasizing. “Women Empowernment” refers to improving the social,political and economic status of women espeacially the traditional unprivileged one.In other words it means to promote womens’s sense of self-worth,their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others.Government of India has given utmost priority to end the gender based ineqalities,reducing disparity between men and women,improving socio economic status of women and increasing their participation in various fields.Recognising the importance of women in the economic growth of the nation,the Government of India along with the State Governments has been taking several efforts to uplift women from their conditions in general.In this respect,Indian Government have introduced several welfare schemes which aims at ‘Women Empowerment’.This paper attempts to analyse the effectiveness of these women welfare schemes on reducing the crimes aganist women in India using datas published by National Crime Record Bureau.However it was found that,these   Welfare Schemes implemented by the government have helped to reduce the annual growth rate of certain heinous crime aganist women however the total number of cases registered have been showing an increasing trend.
