Abstract

The different philosophers have expressed different views on Hume’s theory of God. In David Hume’s famous work “Dialogue Concerning Natural Religion”, Philo’s character tries to establish God’s existence through the Design Argument. For Hume’s analysis of Philo’s character seems to establish his own position. Moreover, Philo’s final word “doubt, uncertainty, suspense of judgment” are particularly noteworthy in the “Dialogue” where he explains Hume’s sceptical position about the existence of God.But he traditionally denied the existence of God because he always emphasized on logical analysis, he did not admit any religious dogma. Moreover, in his denial of the God’s concept, we refer to the causal argument in his famous work “A Treatise of Human Nature”. So, it is up to us to discuss Hume’s arguments for God’s existence, as well as to what extent his theory of causality is admissible for denying God’s existence. Therefore, in this paper I will analyse and explain that Hume’s theory of contradictions is clearly agnostic rather than atheistic because he did not give any simple and clear idea about the concept of God. I will also analyse in this paper, how he explains the essence of human nature not only in terms of recognizing God but also in terms of the existence of any phenomenon.
